STUDIO-LIVE LAUNCHES IN STYLE
Performing in London for the first time, Legendary Saharawi singer Mariem Hassan, will be joining forces with Fairtunes and Sandblast to launch Studio-Live - a project we have been working on together for almost two years. The event aims to profile of our work in the camps including building a Saharawi music industry from scratch in the refugee camps in the Algerian desert. We hope to engage interest from UK-based musicians, producers, technicians, and music industry specialists.
Hosting a spectacular line up of live music and spoken word acts, the Roundhouse audience will be literally transported to the Sahara. Compered by our very own friend and collaborator Dan Tsu from Lyrix Organix, the evening will include the divine Congolese British vibes of Ruby and the Vines, short Saharawi stories and poems presented by playwright Inua Ellams, the inimitable Venzuelan singer Luzmira Zerpa, and mesmerizing kora player Kadialy Kouyate, who recently performed and recorded with Baaba Maal. Performances will be interlaced with visual projections from award winning photographers Andrew McConnell and Bernat Millet and images by Saharawi children. Also joining the event, all the way from Norway where she currently lives, will be Asria Taleb a young Saharawi refugee woman who recently published her story.
